| Abby is in a better place now - she passed away this evening - she had the best day ever yesterday - sharing every sound she knows with the whole family - as if she was singing goodbye - she ate multiple times today - and was just barely hanging on this evening - i put her to bed and said goodbye - i knew she wouldnt make it through the night -just checked on her after 15min of putting her to bed - and i literally put her in the bed and she was gone - he liver enzymes were so hi that the machines wouldnt read them - personally i feel i have failed her but medically i knew it was only a matter of time - thanks so much for all your help - Stacy |

I am so sorry. How is Wilbur taking it? It was so heartrending that they had to be separate for so many years.
It's very painful to lose a bird. You don't know unless you've been through it. _________________ randi@newyorkbirds.net |

Stacy... I am so sorry. I know how your heart is hurting right now. I recently lost my two love birds within days of each other and I still look for them in the morning when I wake up.
You gave Abby a very good life and so much love. She is never really gone, she is always in your memory and in your heart.
My Sympathy. |

Stacy:
We are just humans and all that we can really offer is our best shot. You did the best you could. I'm certain that Abbey knows that too. I'm sure Wilber needs you now, so just accept that she really is in a better place.
hugs,
Nancy |

wilbur is the one left in NJ - i have Wiggles - he was not fond of anyone since the rescue - nor was he fond of his prev owner - he is eating and drinking normal - but he seems more interested in looking for her - when i found her he was at the foot of the bed - he must have known as well - so he saw her after she was gone - and i strongly believe all walks of life need closure - we moved him out into the kitchen - Elsa has been talking to him all AM - i will still put him in the library for bed but for now him and i are mourning - Elsa has been "hello" and "peek-a-boo"all am - he's yet to make a noise - but he was quiet even with abby - she was the vocal one - he was to have his bloodwork next week - since he appears healthy and abby was the main focus - i am 1/2 scared to do it - as if i don't even want to know - he is almost 5 times the weight of abby and also has a ravenous appetite
The day of abby's demise her stools were blackened and loose - Her appetite was that of a hatchling - just a quick as she could eat her crop would empty - I had posted a few days ago cause i was getting worried - i was kinda prepared for it but the situation in a whole has now angered me - i know you cant save them all but this bird whom was locked up for years had so much love to show me - the previous owner had even expressed that she was convinced that i was a liar cause she couldnt believe that i could touch abby - just so sad that for years this loving bird was never loved - it was just so fast - i have her only a lil over a month all together - she was originally diagnosed the end of april and went untreated until i got her
i will keep updates with wiggles - he as well loves the gloop and i will post his bloodwork after he gets it done - i plan on contacting the original owner as soon as i know i can talk about abby without being angry - cause i do believe this woman did not intentially plan to treat he birds like this - she did everything "she" felt best for them - even re-homing them when she knew she couldnt care for them as they grew older and started showing signs of needing serious medical care
too bad we see many bird owners like this - they think they are doing what is right for years because the bag of bird food at the pet store says so - so really who's to blame??
thank you everyone as i will continue to watch wiggles - i worry that he will be in need of a companion - only time will tell - as he is by far yet to bond with a human - but who says you cant teach an old dog new tricks - any good tricks on how i win his love would be greatly appreciated - cause unlike elsa who is won over by food he's a tough egg to crack - so far he will let me scratch his head but only on his terms - sorry so long -its been a rough am without abby and of course trying to explain it to the kids - my one daughter is very sensitive to situation like this - as you know usually when i bring anything home from work its pretty sick cause thats usually the only time when owners seem to want to give their pets up with no strings attached
thanks stacy |

Stacy emailed me last week and when she told me about her insatiable appetite I knew that the end was not too far away. It's the same with dogs and cats when the liver doesn't work any longer.
Poor, poor thing! What a terrible life she had! Born in a cage, taken away from her parents and kept in another cage all her life, all alone, with nobody to love or to love her, no exercise, most likely no toys and, on top of everything else, fed crap. And, get this, guys!, the previous owner wanted the cages back (which were filthy and had rusted bottoms) because she was thinking that maybe she will 'go back' to birds in the future
Let's all keep our fingers crossed for Wiggles. He is having his physical this week. _________________ Bea & Birds

It is so disturbing and heartbreaking, the inhumanity of our own species. _________________ randi@newyorkbirds.net |

I asked my vet about him when I took Slim and ZsuZsu yesterday and he says he is doing OK all together considering, gaining weight on the gloop and all, so, thankfully, there is hope for poor Wiggles. _________________ Bea & Birds
